Specimen Collection and Shipping

Buccal swabs (cheek cells). Minimum of 2 swabs.

Blood - EDTA (purple top) tube is preferred, also accepted are Sodium Citrate (NaCit, blue top) and ACD (yellow top).

• Minimum volume is 2 ml. Please send 2 tubes for leukopenic

  patients.

• Specimen may be stored at 2°-8° C until shipped. A refrigerated

  specimen is viable for 2 weeks.

• Ship specimen at room temperature.

• The specimen can be shipped by any of the major carriers such as

  UPS, DHL, and Federal Express following the
  federal guidelines for shipping lab specimens.*
